The Piha Library has been operating since the early 1950s, providing a library service to the people of Piha, Karekare and Anawhata. It is run by a registered charitable trust, the ‘Piha Community Library Trust’, and staffed by volunteers and a part time paid manager.
At the Piha Community Library our aims are:
- To provide an excellent volunteer community library service.
Our Books and DVDs
Considerable planning, research and volunteer hours are involved in getting your books and DVDs onto the shelves. Catalogues from the various publishers are regularly examined, reviews read and personal requests are considered. There is a strong commitment to match our selection to the requirements of our community.
The Library Trust
The Library is governed by the Piha Community Library Trust. For more about the Piha Community LIbrary Trust visit our Trust page.
While all our librarians are volunteers, the Library is managed by a Library Administrator who is contracted to work 7 hours per week. You can contact the Library Administrator by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Our Library Assistants
The friendly faces you see in the library when you visit are all volunteers. These members of the community generously give their time and energy so that we can open our doors to the community four days a week. We are very grateful to them for making it possible to do so.
There is a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes at the library. Many of the other tasks that are necessary in running a library of this size are also carried out by volunteers. We are very gratefull to them for their hard work and commitment.
Volunteering at the library - How can you help?
We are always appreciative of any offers of help. This is your community library and if you can help in any way please let us know.
There are often specific tasks that we need help with, so please regularly check our Volunteer Noticeboard to see if you can help in any way.
